Tip 1

Check, check check!

Run a background and credit check to learn more about your tenant’s work history and finances. This will give you an insight into their reliability and trustworthiness.

References

Remember that a current landlord may say anything just to get rid of a terrible tenant, so ask for a reference from as many prior landlords as possible. If possible, send a questionnaire so that you can find out as much as possible about the tenant’s prior tenancies. Did they pay the rent on time? Did they keep the property clean and tidy?

Tip 3

Meet for coffee

When you speak with a person by phone, you may not pick up characteristics that may cause concern.  Meet them for a coffee instead so that you can get a better feel for the type of person they are.
