What is unjust enrichment? Unjust enrichment occurs when a person is enriched at the expense of another in circumstances that the law sees as unjust.
For example, in the recent High Court case of Mate v Mate and others, Ms Mate made various claims against her mother and two brothers for works that she had carried out at the family farm for which she was not properly paid. The part of Ms Mate’s claim that succeeded was her claim that her mother and two brothers had been enriched at her expense and the enrichment had been unjust.
